We waved the winter good bye on Christmas Day. Significantly, we also brought the New Year with a spectacular River cruise from Sadarghat to Nawabganj down south of Dhaka. As the sun broke over the horizon spreading the magic of Christmas Day, everyone came collected at 8 am singing “Ore nil doria” one of the most beautiful Bangla folk tunes. The entire party travelled towards river Padma.  The timeless appeal of the two commercial hubs of Bangladesh was palpable while cruising down the waterways. The two ports are the commercial hubs of the capital, as the rivers see a lot of activity day and night.

We crisscrossed several nautical miles from one coast to another for the magical event to bring in the New Year. It’s that time of the year when we let our hair down and have pure fun. The event was organized keeping in mind the hard work the team did for clients all over the world. A talent hunt contest was conducted which came with many surprises. Many little games were played during the daylong cruise. As the water flowed, so did the fun and games. There was plenty of food and music for all.  The event drew attention to the new beginnings of 2013.

If the paper is closer to the surface, the shadow will appear to be much clearer. As the paper is lifted, the shadow starts to blur. This is the same way in which a curved drop shadow is created.

Center curved drop shadow:

This is the shadow that is created on the center of the image with a curve. The Photoshop shadow is then formed on the top and bottom center of the picture. This again makes the image look innate and realistic. In this case, you will have to duplicate the ellipse layer that you position at the bottom and place it just above the image so it’s poking out the top and bottom to complete the effect.

This again can be tried with a real shadow. Take a piece of square shaped paper and place it on the surface. Now when you curve it upwards from the middle, you will get this type of shadow.

Standing image drop shadow:

For this effect, a cast shadow is used that gives the effect of standing to the image. This kind of Photoshop shadow is positioned behind or in front of the image on the lower part. To give your image a standing effect is simple and requires minimal time.

This can be tried by holding a piece of paper upright. When the paper is in the standing position and the light is dropped on it from the front, a rectangular shadow is created on the back. Holding the light behind the paper can also create a shadow in the front.

Is there a difference between resized and cropped pictures? Yes, unless the eye is uninitiated and cannot make it out! It may sound simple, but when an experienced person does the job, it shows.

While a new editor is likely to contract the picture while resizing a veteran will try to crop it instead. This is because while contracting or expanding during resizing, the image gets altered. And it can be a costly mistake. Hence instead of contracting or expanding cropping ensures that the original quality is maintained. There is a crop tool in the image-editing program. It can be used for adjusting the resized image. Photoshop program has the right tool to crop a pic, correctly. Several logos, which appear on the websites, can be cropped to appear on all the pages without causing any problem in browsing large number of web pages.

There are other programs like Dreamweaver and also FrontPage, but the cropping tools are not very effective.  Hence both resizing and cropping are best done in Photoshop. Several HTML pictures are done in this fashion. This is a mistake again that inexperienced editors make while making some web pages. The other problem that is incurred when HTML pictures are cropped, the download is painfully slow. The megabytes are just the same and there is no difference in the content even on a faster broadband connection. Hence it is best to crop the pic in a program that gives better results.
